About Me
I'm a Jesus follower and technologist who works with data to build knowledge: language data, #BibleData, ontologies, and more. This is my personal website, and it also includes professional information.
My Work
Following a masters in computational linguistics at UCLA, I've enjoyed several different careers:
- Two decades as a government contractor and researcher in natural language processing with BBN Technologies, where I was a senior scientist and director in Human Language Technology. In my time with BBN, I worked on information extraction, text categorization and retrieval, and speech to text transcription, primarily serving the federal R&D market.
- This led to a transition to Logos Bible Software, where I led the Content Innovation team in the development of semantic knowledge bases for reference, navigation, visualization, and digital library integration, as well as other activities in text and natural language processing.
- Following this, I've spent the last few years working in technology to end Bible poverty in the 2/3rds World by providing content and tools to support Bible translators at Biblica, where I'm a data scientist and knowledge director.
My other professional interests include generative AI use cases and large language models, learning theory and technology, digital resources for Bible study and understanding, knowledge representation, information visualization, and spiritual formation.
While i've programmed in about 20 different computer languages over the course of my career, Python is my language of choice and has been my unquestioned mainstay for the last two decades.1
