A Controlled Vocabulary for Biblical Studies
Bible dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference works use inconsistent terminology to describe the same subjects, making it hard to find and integrate related content across sources. The Logos Controlled Vocabulary (LCV) addresses this by organizing content from multiple Bible dictionaries into roughly 11,000 terms, capturing inter-term relationships and hierarchies to support search, discovery, and knowledge management; it also underlies topics.logos.com, a site for user contributions. This talk describes how the LCV was built, how it's used today, and some early experiments in learning from existing prose content — including estimating topic importance, identifying prototypical references and phrases for a topic, and mining the link structure between terms.
