Teaching the Cultural Background of the Bible
For many readers, the cultural background of the Bible is unfamiliar territory: ancient customs, objects, and social practices that shaped how biblical texts would have been understood by their original audience. This talk introduces the Lexham Cultural Ontology (LCO), a project to expose, explore, and explain cultural concepts in the biblical text — connecting passages to definitions, related examples, and secondary reference material. It describes how the ontology was built by consulting existing reference works, annotating biblical and secondary texts, and linking the results to other Logos data.
